Broadband Internet

The internet and broadband continues to have a huge influence over our lives. As the internet has expanded we have more and different ways of going about everyday tasks. From the way we shop to even how we order a pizza has changed and will never go back to the way it was. Education has also not been untouched by the internet expansion. Here is a look at how things are different from the way that they were in the past.

Teachers now have more ways than ever before to educate their students. It used to be that they could only be taught what was in the book on their desk. However, this is no longer the case as the world is now at every teacher’s fingertips. For example, teachers now have more resources than ever before concerning educational materials. Sites such as those associated with NASA, PBS and the Discovery Channel offer a wealth of information for teachers to use in their classrooms. Of course, teachers will have to pay attention to where the information comes from in order to be assured that is it right and up to date, but legitimate sites are a gold mine for study guides.

In addition, students are no longer limited to field trips in their immediate region. Students can now take a virtual tour of Europe, the White House, or see the Great Wall of China. The students who get to see these things have been shown to have better grades and remember things better. Students and teachers can now better see what is being taught. For example, a geography class can be taken to another level thanks to Google Earth.

Student and teacher interaction is also no longer limited to specific class times. Now, students can go onto message boards and post questions regarding homework where the teacher and other classmates con offer advice. These discussions help in the traditional classroom setting as well by encouraging interaction, participation and self expression. This type of interaction is also vital for students who may be on the shy side as it helps them to find their own voice.

In addition, students are no longer stuck taking just the classes offered at their specific school. Thanks to partnerships, students can take distance learning classes in a subject that greatly interests them even though that particular classroom may be thousands of miles away. This helps to open up an entirely new world of limitless possibilities and allows students to follow their dreams.

Studies have also shown that students now have better study habits thanks to the internet. This is because students will spend hours online researching projects and completing assignments.

The internet has also changed the traditional dynamic of the study group. Now, students can maintain a relationship no matter where they live as the internet offers an easy way to collaborate on projects and research. In fact, many students say that internet access has allowed them to have a better relationship with their classmates.
