ColorSplash

There any many features that stand out on the excellent iPhone 4S but one area that is exceptional is the still camera facility. This improved application offers 8 million pixel resolution together with a high quality sensor that makes it one of the best phone cameras available. This feature can be further enhanced by some excellent additional applications so we take a look at some of the better ones available from the iTunes App Store.

Despite the excellent image quality offered by the built-in camera on the iPhone 4S they facility does not offer as many features as you may find on other rival models. Numerous applications can be downloaded that can rectify this problem and one of the best we have encountered is the superb Camera+. When you have this application installed on the phone there are a number of useful tools that can improve your final results. One of the main attractions of Camera+ is that it enables you to use touch focus on your photograph. This means that rather than the phone focusing on the subject in the centre of the screen you can actually touch the subject where you want the focused fixed.

In addition to performing this task you can also use a second finger on the screen to manually adjust the exposure settings of the camera. This software also offers users automatic image stabilisation and a Burst mode that takes a series a photographs in quick succession which is perfect for fast-moving subjects. This application is not only great when taking a photograph but also after the image has been captured as it has a range of impressive effects that can be applied to improve on the results. Camera+ is the most impressive photography applications that we have encountered for the iPhone and has numerous benefits both before and after your image has been captured.

The iPhone 4S has a number of applications available that add impressive effects to images after they have been photographed and one of the most interesting is the ColorSplash app. This excellent software removes all of the colour from your image which leaves you with a black and white photograph that looks very impressive. This is however where the fun begins as you can reintroduce colours into certain areas of the image. The final result is modern and artistic looking image that looks superb. Another application that comes up with some interesting results is called 360 Panorama. As you may guess from the name this software takes a series a photographs and merges them together to create a single image that contains a 360 degree view of your current surroundings. Similar software to this often requires the user to carefully align each individual image but this version lets you press the button just once and then simply move the phone around to capture a wonderful view of everything around you.

The iPhone 4S camera is one of the very best available and some excellent additional applications further enhance the facility. Camera+ is a superb app and will benefit anybody who wishes to use the camera facility while applications like ColorSplash and 360 Panorama are slightly more specialised but do produce brilliant results.

BlackBerry Bold 9900

BlackBerry Bold 9900

RIM produce several superb BlackBerry mobile handsets with the Bold range of models sitting proudly at the very top. Recently we saw the new flagship Bold 9900 model introduced and this has now been joined by a slightly lower specification sibling in the shape of the Bold 9790. We take a look at these two exciting models and see how they differ from one another.

Being two of the leading models in the BlackBerry portfolio means that these models offer impressive chipsets that help them achieve very impressive performance speeds. The Bold 9900 is the most powerful device in the line up and sports a 1.2Ghz processor that is coupled with a hefty 768MB of RAM memory. This power combined with the improved power management offered by the BlackBerry 7.0 operating system makes this the speediest BlackBerry we have ever used. The new Bold 9790 uses the same RAM memory as the 9900 but comes fitted with a slightly smaller 1Ghz processor. Despite not being as fast as its big brother the 9790 still impresses with its general speed in all areas including multitasking. When it comes to browsing the internet on these models both phones offer identical connectivity options to help ensure that there is always a connection available regardless of your location. All three recognised speeds of WiFi are supported by the phones and both can connect to a 3G network if you are on the move or have no access to a WiFi network. Even in the absence of 3G the models both sport EDGE and GPRS connections which offer great data transfer speeds.

Bold 9790

Bold 9790

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 uses the higher quality screen of the two devices. The 640 x 480 resolution display measures 2.8 inches and is the best BlackBerry screen that we have ever encountered. Thanks to the high resolution the phone is capable of showing a pixel density of 286 per inch which puts the model in a similar category to phones like the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in this area. The Bold 9790 makes use of a smaller 2.45 inch screen with a lower resolution of 480 x 360 pixels which enables the model to display a respectable 245 pixels per inch. Both of the two screens are capacitive displays which means that users can navigate either directly on the screen itself or by using the optical trackpad which is located just beneath. This dual functionality is superb as on screen navigation is great for some tasks such as web browsing but more precise jobs such as editing documents benefit from the inclusion of the optical trackpad.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9790 are two leading handsets in the range and it is clear to see why. The high quality screens are both impressive while both models offer powerful chipsets that make them the fastest BlackBerry devices ever released.

HTC Amaze 4G

HTC Amaze 4G

You might think that HTC is churning out a fair few cell phones right now, and most of them are pretty good, but there’s one that has caught my eyes and tend to stand out from the rest, it is of course the HTC Amaze 4G. This elegant looking phone when it comes to speed, the camera, it’s overall design, but if that wasn’t enough to convince you to buy this phone that was first released in October 2011, you may be a bit more convinced when you learn a bit more about it.

Features and Specifications:

· Height: 5.1 inches giving you enough room to work with.

· Width: 2.5 inches which means it isn’t big and bulky yet still gives you plenty of room to use the 4.3 (540×960) inch screen.

· Depth: Just under half an inch, making it very thin and a pleasure to use.

· Weight: Just over 6 ounces which is heavier than some but it’s not the heaviest on the market.

· Memory: With a 1 GB RAM, the HTC Amaze 4G is not memory-shy and with a 16 GB storage memory plus up to 32 GB of removable storage, you won’t have much trouble storing a lot of music, photos and more.

· Carriers: T-Mobile, WIND Mobile, Telus, Vidéotron and Mobilicity.

· Operating system: Gingerbread 2.3.4 (One of the latest versions of this operating system), coupled with the HTC Sense 3.0 interface which makes it fast and easy to use.

· Cameras: 2 Mega-Pixel front camera with fixed focus, and an 8 Mega-Pixel rear camera that comes with LED Flash, auto focus and Geo tagging.

· Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a Micro USB port.

· Processor: A Very fast 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S3). Many of the latest phones run on a 1.2 GHz processor which puts the HTC Amaze 4G up with the big boys.

· Dual microphones suitable for recording and voice input.

The HTC Amaze 4G is a very fast phone that has a lot of great features especially the camera and the processing speed that is yet unrivaled. This phone looks good and it performs very well thanks to the Gingerbread operating system that is in itself one of the fastest and best operating systems around; it has been illusive to date but making an appearance on the HTC Amaze has worked well for it and encourages more people to get to know the system while using an incredibly fast and good-looking phone.

Although the camera is not great in low light, the HTC Amaze 4G still has some pretty good camera features that should not be overlooked, and this and its capacity for a lot of memory should leave you pretty astounded when you get your hands on this stylish new phone.

Currently the most popular handsets in the market are the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 4S. Samsung has sold 10 million units of its flagship since its launch in April. It has been the strongest selling smartphone for 8 months running. Apple’s smartphone caters to the needs of their cult following. The Cupertino firm boasts the strongest customer loyalty among all brands. In the first three days the handset went on sale, it sold over 4 million units. Most of people previously owned an iPhone. These may be the top selling smartphones in the market. However, they do not offer unsurpassed performance. One of the handsets that come packed with a more powerful processor is the HTC Sensation XE.

The Galaxy S2 comes with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. The iPhone 4S comes with a 1 GHz dual-core A5 chip. HTC’s handset comes packed with a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU under the hood. This is currently the most powerful CPU on a smartphone in the market.

Since the phone’s processor comes with 1.5 GHz on each individual core, this equates to processing tasks faster than others. One of the most commonly used on today’s smartphones is browsing the web. Since its CPU comes with an integrated own GPU (graphics processing unit), you can visit visually extensive websites with ease.

Another advantage of having a powerful processor such as this is games. There is a reason why not all hardcore games can be run on all handsets. Not all of them can handle the game’s system requirements. This will never be the case with the HTC Sensation XE. Coupled with its GPU and powerful chipset, it will run the most graphically intensive games with ease.

When it comes to running apps, nothing is as annoying as an app that loads slowly. With the HTC Sensation XE, this will never be the case. Apps will load instantly. Once you tap on an app, it will run in no time. Never do have to waste time on loading time.

The device also allows you to multi-task with ease. This means that you can run an assortment of applications all at the same time. No longer do you have to worry about the phone crashing once you run multiple apps. This phone is more than capable of handling heavy multi-tasking.

As you can see, there are a number of advantages of having a phone with a powerful processor. With the HTC Sensation XE, you will get to enjoy superior performance.
